7 New Contestants Join the No Heat Challenge

October 5th, 2008 at 11:09 pm

I thought I'd do a final weekend update on the "contest." But first, I just want to say that we don't want you to do any harm to your health by sitting in a cold house. So if you are in poor health, or have seniors or very young children at home, please don't go to any extremes.

That being said, here's who is still in the running for America's #1 No Heat Miser!

hahaha...I love this sudden challenge that sprang up! I would be all over it- and my living in FL might win it- but BB equates 70 degrees with sweating- so sadly the air conditioning stays on year round and now I cant compete. Frown But my moneys on Ima. She's got sassyness and geography on her side.

Haha, maybe BF & I should have our own challenge, since our electric bill is apparently $500 this month. It's so hard to control the variations when you're on the top floor of a 3-story apartment building.

Your mother's work is amazing! Does she have a website?

I still have not turned on the heater, and last night DH still opened the window, but just a crack. The best thing about this contest, though, is that it's making me more aware of conserving... donning a sweater instead of flipping the switch. In my mind, I am in competition with myself. I will compare my heating bill this year against last year and try for a lower record. I am determined to hold out as long as I can... maybe 'til November.

Still no heat on here. It was actually warm enough last night that I got up to open the window a crack as I was too hot. Here's to more weather that keeps the heat off and the energy bill down!

It was warm and we had windows open. But this morning the house is 75. (It was 80 last night).

Yeah, no heat here. Still very OFF OCtober weather here.

I love the photos of your mothers work!

(no heat, really don't expect it till November)

Thanks for the vote of confidence gamecock!! However, I live in the north georia mountains. The highest peak in Georgia is Brasstown bald, which is just a few miles away from me. When we went to a program there, they explained that our winter weather is very similar to living in Maine, just less snow. So, I will do my best! It gets in the 30's almost every night!!

Now the peer pressure has made me feel worse that I dropped out so soon. But it did get DH to put the remaining storm windows on! I'm cheering for you all and sending you "warm" wishes.

Man, I'm just impressed that someone from Wyoming is in competition. It gets colder there than in Massachusetts.
